The One Million By 2021 Initiative launch

At the 2nd Pan African Youth Forum held at the AUC Headquarters in Addis Ababa, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, the AUC Chairperson, launched the 1 Million by 2021 Initiative to inspire investment in African youth across ‘the 4 E’s’: Entrepreneurship, Employment, Education and Engagement.

Hosted over four days in Ethiopia’s capital city, the AU’s Youth Forum brought together over 400 young people and international community stakeholders to discuss how best to work together to tackle the problems faced by African Youth today, and consider sustainable solutions for the future to support building The Africa We Want. 

Featuring intergenerational dialogues and policy sessions, the Forum acted as a launchpad for new partnerships, commitments and pledges of support to the ‘One Million by 2021’ initiative. 

The ‘One Million by 2021’ Story so far...

Since the launch of #1mby2021 in April 2019, 25 partners have pledged to provide opportunities in across the initiative's four key focal areas: Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Engagement.

The 4Es aim to accelerate socioeconomic development on the continent
